BET hired B. Scott, a blogger and broadcaster known for his fashion savvy, to cover the pre-game of the BET Awards. Scott is known for wearing his hair long and straight, and wearing makeup and women’s clothes – and not campily, either. When producers got a load of what he was wearing (which had been agreed upon in advance), they replaced him on the spot. He was left in his trailer, totally baffled by the situation.
My friend Jay Smooth has a typically insightful commentary on the incident and on BET’s half-assed apology above.
We’re a menswear blog, so if you’re going to find any gender norm challenging here, it’s likely to be women wearing masculine clothes, but I just want to emphasize that we’re cool with the reverse as well. Seriously: you be you. Jay describes B. Scott’s outfits as “bad-ass,” and I think he’s absolutely right.
