We’ve covered a lot of vintage military garb lately on Put This On. Here’s one of my favorite styles: the M-42 Paratrooper Jacket. It has angled pockets for easier cross-body access, and it’s perfect for tropical wear – or just wear over blue jeans.
I’ve seen one or two originals in the wild, but they’re pretty rare, and thus pretty expensive. Usually with vintage militaria, I’m an advocate of buying the real deal, but this is a good chance to go repro. The amazing Japanese reproduction company Buzz Rickson’s offers what I’m sure is a lovely one for about $400, but if that seems a bit rich to you, I’ve been pretty happy with the stuff I’ve bought from What Price Glory, who cater mostly to historical recreationists rather than selvedge denim enthusiasts. The WPG version is $75, and you can even buy matching pants.
